Title of Project: Air Above Us
Date Completed: 2021
Project Budget: $6,000
Client: Rivers of Steel, Braddock Carnegie Library Association
Design Team Collaborators: Rivers of Steel and Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark
Project Location: Carrie Blast Furnaces, 801 Carrie Furnace Blvd, Rankin, PA 15218
Artist’s Role: Lori had a 3-month residency with the community at the Braddock Carnegie Library Association and at Rivers of Steel, where she held light painting workshops on the Air Above Us project theme. The light painting portraits of community members were turned into Augmented Reality videos that could be played at 10 different locations around the Carrie Blast Furnaces site. To get the project information onto vistors’ mobile devices, Lori casted a 3D QR code out of aluminum that triggers a link to the project website that also has the AR app download links to the Artivive app. The 10.5’ x 4’ banners installed on the side of the powerhouse use graffiti letters from around the Carrie Blast Furnace site to spell out Air Above Us, which acts as the key for where to look for the site-specific AR videos.
